Importance of education when he remarked, “Invest in your child, not on your child.” He further went on to beautifully delineate holistic education thus: “Children are the very cream of our generation and they are the rulers and makers of tomorrow. Upon them depends the future of the nation and the safety of our culture and tradition. Let us give them a healthy physical and mental atmosphere for growth, ingrain in them respect and love for all living creatures, team spirit and national fervour and pride in our hallowed, divine culture.” It is only such a holistic education envisioned by Swami Chinmayananda that can truly bring out the ‘true self’ of every individual.

To mould the behaviour of an individual is to mould the character of the community. This is what education strives to achieve. I believe that we can give a purposeful direction to a personality even in the days of its almost unconscious early childhood. Later on, no doubt we must hammer out for the child new extensions and open up new dimensions for its play in the society through literary, scientific and social studies. Whatever the child is to be later on say-, a political leader, an economist, philosopher, a scientific scholar or a glorious artist, his contribution to the society will directly depend upon his character and personality.

Chinmaya Vidyalaya

The Chinmaya Education Movement is one of the most important contributions of Chinmaya Mission to society. It encompasses over 80 Vidyalayas, 8 Colleges, a Harihar School and an International Residential School. Chinmaya Vidyalaya at Chengannur is located in Chinmaya Nagar near Sri Mahadeva Temple in the heart of the town. The school is owned by Chinmaya Seva Trust, Kerala, Thrissur. It is affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi and has classes from LKG to Standard XII. The medium of instruction is English. Hindi, Malayalam, and Sanskrit are also taught as second and third languages. The School is governed by a Governing Body constituted by CSTK consisting of eminent personalities who have got rich experience in the educational field.
